Following its launch in October 2009 Reading Street Pastors has developed steadily. When launched in October there were 27 initial volunteers from a wide range of churches across Reading.
Since then these volunteers, in teams of 6 - 8 people have been going out on Friday nights and have:
- Chatted with over 600 people
- Calmed 26 aggressive situations
- Supported 53 vulnerable people
- Picked up 146 glass bottles
- Dealt with 4 first aid incidents
- Prevented hypothermia by handing out 8 safety blankets
- Protected 34 pairs of bare feet by giving away of flip-flops
- Handed out over 600 lollipops helping to reduce anti-social behaviour by boosting sugar levels
- Handed out 100’s of widgets to prevent drinks being spiked
- Enjoyed volunteering over 550 hours to caring, listening and helping those in need
